A sustainability plan is being developed for the Town of Huntsville by the community, a multi-stakeholder working group, and Lura Consulting. We are committed to developing a framework outlining how municipal operations and community initiatives can be united in balancing environmental, economic and socio-cultural needs, to enrich the quality of life of present and future generations. Our goal is to involve permanent residents, seasonal residents and visitors in the development of this Plan.
all initiatives should be passed into a law format so that people who do not wish to keep out environment green will pay the penalty
ReplyDeleteit is not fair that a few selfish few can ruin the world for everyone
I really think that "green" huntsville could be used as a tourist attraction. If its stratigically advertised about all the good things we do here for our environment, people will want to come and see. Sustainability is all about having what we have here now, forever. On the same note, sustainability is about attracting young professionals to the area and training/educating our own children so that they will stay here and continue to improve our town's heritage. I fully support the University of Waterloo, what a great opportunity for the children of Huntsville.

ReplyDeletePerhaps the link below may be useful for your research and development project.
---------------------------------------------
Communities across Canada have an opportunity to apply for funding to develop sustainable communities through the EQuilibrium Communities Initiative. The Government of Canada launched the $4.2-million initiative aimed at realizing communities that are energy efficient and environmentally sound. Submissions for the Equilibrium Communities Initiative will be accepted until September 22, 2009. See the ecoAction web site for more detailed information http://ecoaction.gc.ca/equilibrium-eng.cfm.
I am involved in a solar company that is engaged with many different resorts & motels in Huntsville who wish to participate in the many different government programs. It is nice to see all the green businesses that want to make a difference. Always room to improve on those without alternative energy as a corporate initiative.
ReplyDeleteAs a member of the Unity Plan committee I would like answers to this simple question:
ReplyDelete"Would you like the community of Huntsville to continue to grow in terms of population, employment oppertunities and retail/commercial services"
Or
"Would you prefer that it remain as much as it is on a status quo basis"
